“The richness of the Italian Province lies in its constant will and capacity to look through transalpine and transoceanic experiences. It studies the avant-gardes and offers a new reading of its motivations in the light of the Greco-Roman culture, the Renaissance or even of the mystifying 19th century.”
Galbiati is both a son of his time and an heir of the South Tyrolean tradition of wood carving. This broad background thus enables him to make unpredictable figures of gigantic sizes and to develop an American neorealist style.
Let’s imagine a far-distant look on things which both becomes a cultural enrichment and an incentive to new experiments. A look which allows visions directed towards a new language but also towards a widening of knowledge obviously helping to build the Artist’s history.
Then, Galbiati can go beyond the thin border-as thin as the blade of a chisel, which existed between woodcraft industry and wood carving by putting the craft to the highest level of creativity.
We’re here presented with the learning path of an Artist on the threshold of his maturity. Being a past master at wood carving, he’s brilliant when unveiling the beautiful veins of bodies, sharp when drawing his first lines, “plastic” and moving when working clay.
